What is Window Film?
When we refer to window film, some consumers are unfamiliar with the terminology. They refer to our services as window tinting. Although using this term is not incorrect, it is a bit misleading. Window tinting seems to imply that the windows will become darker or reflective after the “tinting” is applied, like the windows of a car. Or they imagine a color changing the look of the world outside, as with tinted sunglass lenses.They also assume that if they add window film to the windows of their home, along with darkening the view, it could scratch, bubble or peel somewhere down the road. Although this may be tolerable in a car, no one would like to make a big investment in their home and have something like that happen.
However, we are pleased to tell you that all of these ideas are misperceptions.
Depending on your needs, window films can range from dark and/or reflective to being almost totally clear. And because they are actually bonded to the window, not merely applied with a thin layer of adhesive, they are unlikely to scratch and will certainly not bubble or peel.
Window Tinting without the Tint!
Commercial window tinting has various applications that range from energy savings and UV fading protection to bomb blast protection, security, and even anti graffiti protection. These needs render any visual tint in the shade of the window relatively unimportant. For residential window tinting however, the idea is to have as limited a visual impact as possible on the home. People want to let the sunshine in, and have nothing darkening their views. For this reason, reflective, darkening or other speciality films are very rarely used in residential window tinting. With the great majority of residential window film, the window film we install is almost imperceptible once installed.
Rather than wonder why anyone would want tinted windows in their home, people are instead starting to wonder why cars, which can get dangerously hot in the summer Colorado sun, do not use window film instead. Imagine the energy savings if your air conditioner didn’t have to work so hard to cool down an overheated vehicle.
